- Make sure an eligible nominator has submitted your nomination before you submit your application dossier.
Nomination: An application is valid only with a nomination. Self-nomination is not considered. Nominations can be submitted by:
- Governments of Member States, in consultation with their National Commissions.
- Non-governmental organizations with official partnerships with UNESCO and active in relevant fields covered by the Prize.
- UNESCO Chairs.
- Category 2 Institutes and Centres under the auspices of UNESCO.
- International scientific unions.
- Universities, for example a Head of Department, Dean or university management professional (individual faculty members and staff cannot nominate candidates).
A nomination must be accompanied by a written recommendation including a description of the candidate's background and achievements, a summary of the work, publications and other supporting documents of major importance, and a description of the candidate's contribution to the Prize's objectives.
Two methods of nomination:
- Method 1: The nominating entity gives the candidate a nomination letter to upload with the application. It must be on the entity's official letterhead, include the nominator's name, email address and telephone number, be signed by an authorized representative, and include official stamps or seals if available.
- Method 2: Direct online nomination. The nominating entity registers as a nominator on the application portal and waits for account verification and activation. The nominator can then nominate a candidate either by application number or by email, in which case an invitation is sent to the candidate to submit their application.
Important notes:
- The application and nomination must be completed in full in English or French.
- Incomplete or late applications and nominations will not be considered.
- An eligible nominating entity may nominate a maximum of three candidates, each submitted separately.
- Nominators are encouraged to inform candidates of their nomination so they can complete their application on time.
- Allow time for nominator account verification.
