An English-language peer-learning programme that pairs five youth-focused human rights organisations with NGOs already using AI in their work, from January to early July 2027. Flights and accommodation for a workshop in Venice are covered.

Details

AI4HR is a five-year research project (2024-2029) supported by the Global Campus of Human Rights and the Right Livelihood partnership. It aims to develop an AI for Human Rights Toolkit, designed with and for young people, that highlights the opportunities, not just the risks, of AI. It is structured across three settings: the workplace, the higher education classroom, and the high school setting.

What the programme is:

  • Each participating youth organisation is matched for six months with an AI-expert NGO that shares its experience and offers practical guidance.
  • The organisation decides the focus, such as documenting violations, analysing information, or strengthening advocacy.
  • Most of the work is online, with webinars and workshops held approximately once a month.
  • The AI expert visits the organisation in person once in spring 2027.
  • A workshop for all participants in Venice, Italy, on 25-26 February 2027 to exchange experiences and build networks.

Programme period: January to early July 2027.

How to apply: Fill in the Microsoft Form by 4 November. The application includes:

  • A short description of the organisation and its work with young people, with a link to its website or social media.
  • What the organisation hopes to learn or test with AI and why it matters to its work.
  • The name(s) and CV(s) of 1-2 representatives who can commit to a six-month programme in English, the AI expert's visit, and the in-person workshop in Venice.

AI may be used to refine language or structure, but applicants are asked to express their genuine thoughts. Questions: aiforhrlayer1@gchumanrights.org

Eligibility Criteria
  • Youth-focused human rights organisations, meaning organisations that are youth-led or work mainly with and for young people (aged 15 and above).
  • No previous AI experience is required; curiosity and a clear idea of what the organisation wants to learn and where to apply it matter more.
  • 1-2 representatives committed to the six-month programme in English, the AI expert's visit, and the Venice workshop.
  • Applications from organisations in Global Majority countries are particularly welcome.
  • Selection criteria: whether the organisation is youth-led or works primarily with and for young people, the relevance of its human rights work, the clarity of its learning goals, and its capacity and commitment to complete the programme.
Opportunity Benefits
  • Six months of pairing with an AI-expert NGO, with practical guidance.
  • Online webinars and workshops approximately once a month.
  • One in-person visit from the AI expert to the organisation in spring 2027.
  • Participation in a workshop in Venice, Italy, on 25-26 February 2027 to exchange experiences and build networks.
  • Funding for all flight and accommodation expenses in Venice.
