The Allianz Climate Risk Award is an international research competition launched by Allianz Re to support early-career researchers whose work focuses on understanding climate change risks and extreme weather events, as well as developing practical solutions to enhance climate resilience and adaptation. In 2026, the award celebrates its 10th anniversary and includes three categories: the Global Award, the Allianz Trade Award, and the Asia Regional Award. The competition aims to bridge scientific research with the insurance industry and policymakers while promoting the practical application of research findings.

  • The competition includes three award categories:
  • Global Award.
  • Allianz Trade Award.
  • Asia Regional Award.
  • Ten researchers will be shortlisted for the Global Award.
  • Selected research papers will be published in the Allianz Climate Risk Award Compendium.
  • Finalists will be invited to present their research in Munich, Germany.
  • The Global Award ceremony will take place in Munich on 3 December 2026.
  • The Asia Regional Award ceremony will take place in Singapore on 26 October 2026.
Eligibility Criteria
  • Applicants must be PhD candidates or postdoctoral researchers.
  • Recent PhD graduates may apply if no more than two years have passed since the successful defense of their doctoral thesis.
  • The applicant must be the sole author of the submitted research.
  • Only one research paper may be submitted.
  • The research must have progressed beyond the conceptual stage and include clear, demonstrable results.
  • The research must focus on:
  • Understanding climate change-related extreme weather risks; or
  • Developing solutions and technologies that strengthen climate adaptation and resilience.
  • Finalists must be available to attend the final award ceremony in Munich.
  • Applicants must submit:
  • A non-technical summary (maximum 800 words).
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • A recommendation letter from their academic supervisor.
  • The completed application form.
  • The signed declaration form.
Opportunity Benefits
  • First prize in the Global Award: EUR 7,000.
  • Each of the other shortlisted Global Award finalists will receive EUR 3,000.
